There’s a new contender on Shore Drive competing for your dining dollar.

Simple Eats, 3152 Shore Drive, Virginia Beach, 962-3676, simpleeatsvb.com

Simple Eats is hoping to attract the health-conscious patron by promoting their farm-to-table dishes. The menu is varied and interesting: breakfast burritos, buttermilk pancakes with caramelized bananas, creative salads, flatbreads, simple tacos, roasted duck and pimento cheese sandwiches. The barbecue chicken atop heirloom potato, cantaloupe and habanero salad got my attention.

Owners Sandy and Eddie Schmidtmann took over the lease on the former H2O. They brightened up the place, added a new deck out back, and opened the door in June. Serving breakfast, lunch and early dinner, they also feature craft beers and wines from Virginia.
On the weekends, look for the cute little camper out front, The Juice Box, that offers all natural juices and fresh produce.

Open Sunday through Thursday from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m.
